Jet Airways has received approval from Directorate General of Civil Aviation for CAT II authorisation of its ATR 72 – 500/600 fleet for low visibility operations. The airline is first in India to receive such a approval for CAT – II operation of turbo pop aircrafts. This would allow turbo pop aircrafts to take off on runways with visibility as low as 125 meters and land on runways with 300 meters . In a statement issued by Nikhil Ved , Senior Vice President flight operation the approval would allow the company to enhance its operations in the winter season in India.
Jet Airways currently flies to 35 destination with turbo pop powered aircrafts and the same is used to connect Metro cities with Tier II and III cities of the country . It would also reduce the number of flights canceled due to fog situations.
